What To Do When You Think You’ve Lost Your Focus

What to do when you think you’ve lost your focus

And what I mean by losing your focus is feeling like we’re all over the place, sometimes pursuing our life without any direction, forgetting what matters most to us and what we really need to dedicate our energy to. Whether it be with your personal life, your job or your blog, days can go by in a flash without us being really productive or at least without working towards our goals (which of course you have the right to take a break from eventually).

But if you feel like you’ve been feeling lost or under the weather lately, here are a few suggestions to help you get your vibe back.

Have some « me time »

As a starting point, it’s always good to take a step back and allow some time to take care of yourself and assess the situation.

Take the time to breathe in and out and reconnect with yourself. Whenever I feel stressed out, I try to stop and take a deep breath then repeat a couple more times (thanks mom for the lifetime advice!).
Don’t hesitate to treat yourself to your favorite meal too, you’ll feel better afterward and (if not lighter) ready for whatever’s coming next.

Talk about it

When something goes wrong, I’m the first to keep it all inside but sometimes the necessity to talk to a friend or a relative surpasses all expectations and sharing your load can only help you figure out if you made your problem bigger than it really is or make it clearer.

People will most likely ask you the right questions and your answers will help you define a natural path to getting your mojo back. The situation you are in may also be something the person you confide in has already been through and they can also express their point of view, putting things into perspective. Whatever their input is, it might really inspire you in so many ways.

Come up with an action plan

Now that you’ve figured out where you want to go, give yourself the means to get there.

Set yourself deadlines if you need to. This is something that works well for me as I tend to let things rot in a little corner of my mind only to come back haunting me with more stress because I’m not free of the bad thoughts.

We’re halfway through the year already and as much as it gives me the chills to think life is passing by so fast, it’s a good time to evaluate how the year is going for you. September kind of feels like a mini-reboot if not more than January and I sure am setting myself new personal and professional objectives comes September.

Don’t beat yourself up

If you still haven’t gathered your thoughts after all of this, remind yourself that it’s important to be kind to yourself and not beat yourself up. Be in sync with who you are and do what feels right in the moment. It’s okay if you can’t do it all and nothing lasts forever, chances are you’ll be finding your way back to a more rightful direction without you even noticing.

What do you do to let go and reconnect with yourself?
