When in vacation abroad, let’s be honest, if like me you’re the slightest bit addicted to makeup, you’re always gonna rush through the aisles of beauty stores looking for brands that aren’t available in your home country.
Of course that’s what I did when I was in San Francisco (not so many Sephoras out there in the desert), and with a not-so-serious-about-it shopping list that was pretty heavy, I think I ended up being quite reasonable, keeping it to a few “essential” items.
1. Tweezerman Tweezers
After hearing Anna rave about them over and over and due to the fact that I didn’t own a proper pair of tweezers, I decided it was time to invest in the Tweezerman ones and I must say I don’t regret it one bit! They are so sharp it’s amazing.
2. Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer in Vanilla
Although I wanted it for several months now and I could have bought it in France, my skin was in terrible condition due to travelling so I needed something that could cover unwanted spots and redness a little bit more than my tinted moisturizer. I use it mainly to conceal blemishes and I’m really happy with my purchase.
3. MAC brush 217
Only my second MAC item (after the brush cleanser) – I know, I know, I’m missing out on great products from the brand but MAC stores feel like a scary place for me, I’m really more comfortable in a big Sephora – but since this brush is SO popular I was really tempted to try it. I use it everyday since I have it but I still need to practice a little bit more to achieve the looks I’d like to do.
4. Living Proof Style Extender Spray
It being a spray is probably the thing that pushed me to buy it but to be honest I didn’t really need that one and I wouldn’t have missed out on much if I hadn’t bought it. I can’t seem to notice a difference every time I try a new hair product. Is it just me or am I doing something wrong?
5. Hourglass Ambiant Lighting Blush in Diffused Heat
I really wanted this back when I was in London but didn’t buy it in the end for various reasons. I was still pining for this blush three months later (that’s when you know you really want something) so I jumped on the occasion once in a US Sephora and picked this color which I find absolutely gorgeous and not too red. Plus the staying power of this blush is really good!
6. L’oréal Miss Manga Mascara
This was such a bargain! I don’t understand why this french brand comes cheaper in the rest of the world but whatever. So I decided to give this a go and bought two of them (one for my mom, and one for myself). I was really impressed with the “Manga” effect and I think it’s great for length & volume. However it didn’t reconcile me with drugstore mascaras and I find it quite irritating. But that’s just me and my sensitive eyes!
7. Sally Hansen Diamond Strength nail polish in Heart to Heart
For 2 years I’ve been on the hunt for the perfect orangey-red nail polish. And this one was very close in color and I wanted to try this brand out so I told myself, why not? Well well.. wasn’t quite the quality I had hoped for. It looked really nice on my nails but once I removed it, ughh, my nails were orange. The color had transferred on my nails even with a base coat. Did not like that.
Have you ever tried those out?
